When was the last time you picked up a paintbrush? Last weekend? Last summer? Last century? There’s no official line on how often you should redecorate.
With constant trends, seasonal updates, and personal tastes evolving over time, it’s not surprising to hear that the houseproud homeowners among us are keen to spruce up their abode.
But, some people certainly have fairly strong views on the subject. Those aged 18 to 24 are most likely to harbor a decorating addiction. One in three of those in this age bracket think you should redecorate every THREE MONTHS! We’re exhausted just thinking about it!
As we get older, our need to stay on top of the latest trends begins to wane. In the 35 to 44 and 45 to 54 age categories, two years seems the appropriate time between makeovers.
At the other end of the scale, people between 55 and 64 are the most likely to “never” redecorate, as their interiors will “come back into fashion eventually anyway.” Half of the people in this age group say they don’t bother following all the redecorating trends.
On average, we decorate our living room every 25 months, our bedroom every 29 months, and our hallway every 45 months.
With all that we have been through in the last couple of years, it isn’t surprising that 55% of Americans made a significant change to their home decor during 2020 when they spent more time at home than ever.
And, seven of ten Americans took their decor game to a new level in 2021!
The living room is the most frequented in the household. It’s where you go to relax, binge Netflix, host company, and more. The living room is also the place where you can have fun and explore different paint colors.
Many people decorate their homes to accompany the colors of their living room walls. It’s generally suggested that you should repaint your living room every five to seven years.
Are you looking to create a new fresh feeling in your home? Sometimes all you need is a fresh coat of paint! Painting the inside of your home is a great way to refresh a room.
Whether or not the room feels stale or you want to cover up all the scuffs and dings of a well-lived space, the amount of time between repainting interiors differs for each room.
Some rooms benefit from a fresh coat of paint more often than others. Choosing to paint depends on how often a room is utilized, the amount of sun and moisture in the space, or if pets or kids frequent the room.
Style isn’t eternal, and sometimes no matter how much money and time you invest in decorating your home (or how few trends you fall for), your interior décor becomes dated, and the look you once loved doesn’t work as well.
Despite your best efforts, that brightly colored accent wall you painted earlier isn’t looking so fresh anymore. Is it? It doesn’t mean you have bad taste or that your house is old; it’s just that it is time to express yourself in a fun new way.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself if you are starting to get the itch to redecorate:
- Am I still happy with how my home or a particular room looks?
- Does this room still fit my lifestyle and fulfill my daily needs?
- Why do I have the desire to redecorate?
- Could I be just as happy if I only made small changes or touch-ups?
- What is my budget for redecorating right now?
When Autumn comes around, there’s always a sense of a new beginning in the air. No matter your age, that starting-term-again feeling catches each September as the leaves turn golden, the air crisps, and the summer rush becomes a distant memory
Little wonder then that Pinterest has named this month the perfect time to rehaul your home for a new beginning if you’re thinking about it.
So, have fun. We are sure you’ll love how even the little changes can make a big difference.
